Hot Takes for Week 1
Jared Goff is a Top 12 QB
No seriously, it could happen. We all know how bad last year’s 1st overall selection was, leading the Rams to a 0-7 record as their starting QB. There still is some hope, he has talent, and he was set up to fail last season. The Rams thought they were a QB away last year, gave up tons of draft capital and didn’t surround Jared with much talent after that, what did you think would happen? Fast forward to this season, Jeff Fisher is finally gone, replaced with Sean McVay, the man who helped Kirk Cousins throw for nearly 5000 yards last season. He can only help Goff, meanwhile the team signed two starting offensive linemen and traded for Sammy Watkins, their best WR since Tory Holt. Look for Goff to show why he was drafted this high and perform as a QB1 this week against a weak Colts team without their best CB. The Colt’s offense should sputter, giving the Rams plenty of opportunity with the football.
Matt Forte out Performs Bilal Powell
ADP for Powell? 5.07. ADP for Forte? 11.07. Why pay more for the RB who’s 2nd on the depth chart? Now we all know the Jets are tanking, but if you haven’t noticed, so are the Bills. It’s been pretty clear the Jets don’t have Forte in their long-term plans, as they tried trading him in the offseason. Look for the Jets to try and showcase Forte to the league and give him plenty of work against the Bills this week. If you remember last season, Forte was used heavily early in the year, with 27 week 1 touches and 32 the following week. Workload aside, this is a great matchup, as the Bills allowed the 4th most points to RBs last season. Look for Forte to get plenty of work this week and finish as a top 15 back, you won’t get the opportunity to start too many Jets this season.
Jamison Crowder Establishes Himself as the Skins #1 WR
Don’t read this one if you invested a 3rd or 4th round pick in Pryor during your draft, you won’t be happy. Kirk Cousins lost a lot of his supporting cast last year, DeSean Jackson went to Tampa, and Pierre Garcon went to San Fran. That’s a loss of 214 targets, 135 receptions, 2046 yards and 7 TDs. Plenty think that Pryor will become Kirk’s new #1 WR and soak up a lot of those targets, I don’t, I think Kirk will be throwing to old reliable, Jamison Crowder. With all the change in the Redskins offense Kirk will be looking for the WR he’s been comfortable with over the last two seasons. Going into his 3rd season I expect a big jump for Crowder, I believe he will out perform Pryor this week and throughout the season. Don’t forget, Pryor is still learning the position after spending most of his football career as a QB, and he had a rough preseason. Watch for Crowder to get peppered with plenty of targets on Sunday, and even in the redzone as Crowder becomes Kirk’s favorite target.
