Marian University in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin is not school I except you to have ever heard of let alone be one that is known for producing high profile football players to the NFL. But 2017 could be the year Marian officially gets put on the map.
Who can Marian credit this potential new notoriety to? Krishawn Hogan.
The skinny on Krishawn Hogan– he’s 22, 6ft 3in tall, has a college dominator rating 44%, Phenom Index of 2.28, breakout age of 19.3 and hits on every Combine metric (see below).
*UPDATE* The Guru Score has been renamed as ‘WR PSI’ and can be accessed here.
1) Odell Beckham Jr
2) Sammy Watkins
3) Jordan Matthew
4) Mike Evans
5) Amari Cooper
6) Davante Adams
7) Donte Moncrief
8) Leonte Carroo
WOW! If that list doesn’t excite you, I’m not sure what will.
I used Rotoviz for their Box Scout Score App to pull in my favorite player comp for Krishawn – Jordy Nelson.
Again, the list of players Jordy is associated with is amazing, and also very similar to the list Krishawn compared with in my Guru Score list.
Since Krishawn went to a very small school so getting Car. MS REC YDs, and the like is difficult as their records and game tape are not easily found. So unfortunately we can’t compare those stats to Jordy’s. So what do we know? Well we know that when we look at small school players we want to see guys that just dominate the competition like a bully on the school playground.
Krishawn Hogan’s receiving stats are nothing short of dominating (see below).
1) He had 101 receptions his Junior year and followed that up with 80 in only 12 games his Senior year.
2) He averaged 109 yds per game his final 3 years which is better than AJ Green and a few others on the list above.
3) He average 1.05 TD’s per game receiving which better than everyone but Leonte Carroo and Amari Cooper.
4) He had over 1K yards 3 of 4 years and topped out 170yds away from 2K his Junior year.
5) He averaged 16.2 yards per reception , this kid is a deep threat.
6) Finally he scored 45 Rec TD’s in his career, hitting double digits 3 times.
That is the type of “WOW” production you’re looking for from a small school player. He clearly was head and shoulders above his counterparts.
“But, many guys have done that before. Why should I take a flier on him now?”
Ok, ok you’re still skeptical I see.
Well, have any of those before him also scored 25 RUSHING TD’s? Yep, you read that right, he scored 25 rushing TD’s in college. I’ve never heard of a player this size produce those kind of rushing stats in addition to his gaudy receiving stats. Normally when you hear of a WR who scores rushing TD’s they are the Tyreek Hill/Curtis Samuel types, not the Jordy’s/Gordon’s/Jeffrey’s of the world. This kid is an OW – Offensive Weapon – if he gets with a creative high powered offense (IND & GB looking at you) he could return HUGE ROI for you and he’s going undrafted in most rookie mock drafts right now. (Update: He went UDFA to the Arizona Cardinals)
2017 NFL Draft
During the NFL draft Krishawn Hogan went undrafted and signed quickly after with the Arizona Cardinals. At first I was a little dismayed because I was hoping he would sign with GB, IND, or BAL. The first two are high profile offenses with either aging or thin WR corps and Baltimore is also thins at WR and still have about 200 targets up for grabs from players who are no longer on the team from last season. While I wasn’t thrilled about his landing spot at first after going to look at their depth chart (see below) I got more excited about it.
Think about it for a second, aside from Fitz who now plays slot and is about to retire next year, who else do they have? You may mention John Brown or JJ Nelson but both don’t fit the physical profile of Krishawn Hogan they are more of the shorter (sub 6ft) speedy type of WR. After them there isn’t a name on this roster that Hogan is worse than from day 1. In fact for WR’s his size I could easily see him making the case during Training Camp for being the #1 guy on the team to replace Michael Floyd.
Yes, they did draft Chad Williams in the 3rd round from Grambling St. and while he checks all the combine boxes and has the higher draft capital he’s also entering the league as a 23yr old WR and in the last 5 years only 2 of 62 (3%) WR’s to enter the league 23 and older have become WR2’s in FF and they are Kelvin Benjamin and Tyrell Williams who each have 1 season as WR2’s. Kelvin and Tyrell also did it their rookie season and both did it due to injuries to other WR’s and as result were force fed the ball. So unless Fitz goes down I don’t see that in Chad’s future.
Overall, this situation sets up very well for Krishawn as a landing spot and place where he can make an instant impact. I’m in a 5 Round 16 Team Rookie Draft and I’m targeting him in round 3 or 4 to secure his services.
